BNP leader among two killed in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 18 (UNB): Two people, including a BNP leader and a night guard, were killed by unknown assailants in the district in separate incidents early Friday.
The victims were identified as Arabindu Mondal Bulu (45), joint secretary of Rupsha Upazila unit BNP, and Chayanuddin Mollah (50), a night guard of Khulna Branch of the United Commercial Bank.
In the first incident, a gang of terrorists called Bulu out of his home at Doba in Rupsha Upazila at about 2:00 am, witnesses said.
Later, they beat up Bulu indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot. The assailants then fled the spot.
The police said Bulu was an accused in two cases, but, secured bail.
In another incident, Chayan's body was recovered from his rented house at Moulvipara in the city at about 8:00 am.
Local people said they informed the police as Chayan did not wake up from sleep in the morning.
On information, the police broke the door of his house open and found Chayan's bloodstained body on the ground.
Neighbours said Chayan was alone in his rented house as his family members went to his village home in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia district for celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.
The motives behind the predawn killings could not be known immediately.
The bodies were recovered and sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two cases were filed with Rupsha and Kotwali police stations.
