BNP leader chopped to death

A local BNP leader was chopped to death by miscreants at Chapali village in Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah district on Tuesday. The dead is Ismail Hossain, 55, vice-chairman of Kaliganj upazila unit of BNP and son of late Mandu Mandal of the village. Police said a gang of unknown miscreants attacked Ismail, also a former panel mayor of Kaliganj municipality, with sharp weapons while he was going for a local arbitration and chopped him indiscriminately near Nimtala bridge around 8:30am, leaving him severely injured. Locals rescued him and rushed him to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, as his condition started deteriorating, he was shifted to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead around 9:30am, according to UNB.
