Overturning his bail petition, a court in Rajshahi on Tuesday sent BNP joint secretary general Mizanur Rahman Minu to jail in a case filed on charges of attempting to murder the then officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station in 2011. Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Biswanath Mondol passed the order when the former Rajshahi city mayor appeared before it in the morning seeking bail in the case. Abul Hashem, inspector of Rajshahi Metropolitan Court Police, said the BNP activists, led by Minu, brought out a procession from Bhuban Mohan Park area of the city on June 4, 2011 in support of a hartal. As the procession reached the local press club in Saheb Bazar Zero Point, an altercation between the police and the BNP workers broke out as the law enforcers obstructed them, according to UNB.
