BNP leaders covertly in touch with govt, claims Hassan Mahmud

Many BNP leaders are covertly in touch with the government in a bid to break away from the party, Awami League leader Hassan Mahmud has claimed. ‘The split in the BNP is imminent. It is reflected in a recent book written by BNP leader Moudud Ahmed,’ he said at a discussion in Dhaka on Thursday. Mahmud made the claim soon after the formation of National Democratic Front (NDF), an alliance constituted with 10 small parties and led by the NPP, a component of the BNP-led 20-party coalition. The National Peoples party (NPP), led by Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu, reportedly left the BNP-led 20-party alliance recently. Hassan Mahmud said many BNP leaders, who had been in touch with the government, would inevitably contribute to the BNP’s downfall, according to bdnews24.com.
