A senior Awami League leader said the remarks of BNP leaders have exposed it as an anti- Indian political party, reports BSS.
Referring to BNP's international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon's claim at a recent press conference that BNP never opposed India, has not been opposing India now and won't oppose India in future, he said, "It could be easily realised from such remarks of BNP leaders that they had opposed India in the past, opposing India at present and would oppose India in future."
Suranjit Sengupta, also chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on current politics, organised by Bangabandhu Academy at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city.
Bangabandhu Academy adviser Dr Khondokar Emdadul Haque Selim chaired the discussion while Dhaka City unit president of Samyabadi Dal Haroon Chowdhury, Awami Jubo League leader Minhaz Uddin Mintu and Bangabandhu Academy secretary general Humayun Kabir Mizi, among others, spoke on the occasion..
Commenting on BNP's claim that it hasn't been opposing India, Suranjit Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling Awami League, said BNP has followed Pakistani philosophy since its inception and the party opposed India in the real sense.
Turning to sharing of Teesta waters, the senior politician said, "It can't be said that Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh will not be successful even if the agreement relating to sharing of waters of the river Teesta is not signed, because India is a country of union of states."
"The central government of India requires permission of the state government concerned while signing any agreement. The Teesta deal must be signed, there's no alternative to it. We will not back out from our legitimate demand," he added.
