BNP leaders talking in destructive tone, says Quader

Thursday, 25 July 2024

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that BNP leaders did not believe in the spirit of the Liberation War and that is why they were still talking in the tone of destruction, reports BSS.
He made the remark at a food distribution ceremony, organised by Mohammadpur unit of the Awami League, on Shyamoli-Adabar Ring Road in the capital.
Criticising the statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Quader said that Mirza Fakhrul was still falsifying as they did not believe in the spirit of the Liberation War.
The AL general secretary said that BNP had not wanted Bangladesh and the Liberation War.
"You (BNP leaders) didn't want Padma Bridge and metro rail too," he said, adding today the metro rail remains shut as BNP carried out destruction on it (metro rail).
Mentioning that city dwellers wanted metro rail, he said it would take a year to repair the damage caused by the attack on Mirpur metro station during the students' movement.
He said Setu Bhaban was affected, and his office was on the second floor of the building, which turned into coal, and BRTA building was also torched.
The road transport and bridges minister said the achievements of the Sheikh Hasina government were turned into destruction due to arson attack.
"The independence of Bangladesh, the value of the Liberation War, Joy Bangla and the great victory of 1971 is affected today," he said.
He said ill-efforts continued to set Mawa and Jajira points of Padma Bridge on fire time and again, but locals have resisted those. "We cannot sit idle when my country and its achievements are affected," he added.
Quader said, "Bangladesh Television (BTV), the carrier of our history and culture, was torched. "Mirza Fakhrul still speaks in the tone of destruction. How much destruction does he want?" he questioned.
AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretary Mirza Azam and Dhaka North City AL president Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, among others, spoke.
Another BSS report adds: Obaidul Quader said that all those involved in the violence would be brought to justice.
"Strict legal action will be taken against them who are involved in such hateful terrorism and arson attacks. To identify them, proper investigation will be carried out," he said while chairing a view-exchanging meeting held at Dhaka District unit of Awami League (AL) office in the city's Tejgaon area.
Mentioning that the incumbent AL-led government is committed to the people of the country, AL general secretary said no evil force will be spared, if they try to ruin this pledge.
Quader said BNP-Jamaat and their allies have planned to carry out the current destructions to stop the ongoing development spree and progress of the country.
Noting that a vested quarter wants to turn Bangladesh into a dysfunctional state, standing against the original spirit of the Great War of Liberation and independence, he said, "We cannot let this happen."
He warned all from BNP-Jamaat as the main objective of this clique is to put the country backward.
Talking about BNP-Jamaat's ill- activities and conspiracies, the road transport minister said that this anti-national force is spreading various rumors.
"They are engaging in tarnishing the image of Bangladesh before the international arena with false information," he said.
The veteran AL leader urged all to remain alert against them.
He also called upon everyone to work together aiming to resist BNP-Jamaat's evil conspiracies.
