BNP-led 20 parties forms human chain in city

The 20-party opposition bloc, led by the BNP, formed its rescheduled human chain programme in Dhaka city today (Tuesday), demanding return of its leaders and workers who fell victims to ‘enforced disappearances' in the last five-and-half-year. Thousands of leaders and activists of the 20-party alliance gathered at different parts of Shantinagar-Bijoynagar-Kakrail-Nayapaltan-Rajarbagh-Fakirapool area and stood at one side of the streets and formed the human chain. The human chain, which stretched from Bijoynagar Nightingale crossing to Fakirerpool crossing (near Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital) started at 11.00am and ended at 12.00pm. Earlier on Saturday, the opposition parties rescheduled their human chain for Tuesday as the government denied them permission for staging the protest programme as it coincided with a rally held in the city by the ruling party, according to private TV channels.
