BNP-led 20-party likely to stage demo Aug 19

Monday, 11 August 2014

The BNP-led 20-party alliance is likely to stage nationwide demonstrations on August 19 demanding the government scrap the national broadcasting policy. BNP standing committee members worked out the programme at a meeting of the party’s highest policymaking body on Sunday night, party high-ups said last night. They, however, said the programme will be finalised at another meeting of the top leaders of the 20-party alliance, to be held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan in the city on Monday. BNP chief Khaleda Zia will chair the meeting. Earlier, the BNP in a formal reaction said the government's move to formulate the National Broadcast Policy 2014 is nothing but to gag media and people’s freedom of speech. ‘The National Broadcast Policy is a genius black law. The present illegal government wants to control media formulating the policy,’ the party alleged, according to a news agency.
