Friday, 18 July 2014

A local leader of BNP was killed in a clash between his supporters and police at Islamkati-Sujanshah under Tala upazila in Satkhira district on Friday. The dead is SM Biplab Kabir, general secretary of Jalalpur union unit of BNP and son of late Seher Ali of Doha village. Police said acting on secret information that a group of people were gathering at Islamkati-Sujanshah for carrying out subversive activities, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3:00am. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the ‘miscreants’ hurled several crude bombs targeting police prompting police to fire. Biplab sustained bullet injuries in his leg during the firing while the others managed to flee, he said. Later, police arrested him and took him to Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning. Four policemen were also injured in the half-an-hour-long fight. Police also recovered four sharp weapons from the spot. Biplab was wanted in 10 cases, police said, according to a news agency.
