BNP men clash in Dinajpur before central leaders

DINAJPUR, Dec 12 (UNB): A triangular clash in the presence of BNP's central leaders over sitting on the podium at a joint workers' meeting of the party and its associate bodies left at least seven people injured in the district town Friday.
The joint workers' meeting of the district BNP and its front organisations was arranged at Dinajpur Lokbhaban in the town in the morning. BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and joint secretary general Mizanur Rahman Minu attended the programme as guests.
An altercation took place between the supporters of district BNP general secretary Mukur Chowdhury and Shahriar Akhter Haque Don, nephew of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, around 11:30am over sitting on the podium.
Later, the followers of Lutfar Rahman Mintu joined the feud.
At one stage, the three groups engaged in a clash in the presence of the central BNP leaders. The unruly BNP men vandalised the stage of the rally during the melee that left seven people injured.
Later, Mahbubur Rahman and Minu stepped in to quell to feuding groups. However, their efforts went in vain as the clashing groups paid no heed to them.
Finally, the two central BNP leaders left the podium amid the triangular clash.
Meanwhile, the car of Mahbubur Rahman came under attack while he was leaving the venue.
