BNP men 'to be shocked if Khaleda not permitted'

Friday, 10 August 2007

GAZIPUR, Aug 09 (UNB): BNP chairperson's adviser ASM Hannan Shah said Thursday the countrymen, particularly the BNP leaders and workers, would be deeply shocked if party chairperson Khaleda Zia is not allowed to join relief activities.
"She should not be prevented from participating in the relief operation on the `pretext of security' since it is the government's duty to ensure safety for all citizens," he said.
The BNP leader was talking to the newsmen as he came to appear before the local court in a case against him.
Hannan Shah expressed the hope that the government would give Khaleda permission today to take part in relief activities. "After that, we'll start our relief operation on August 11," he said.
He added that if Khaleda does not get permission in this connection, the relief operation would be conducted as per the decision of the chairperson and party leaders.
Asked about BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Shah said he should not take any party decision without discussing with Khaleda. "It was part of Mannan Bhuiyan's ongoing reform programme," he said.
