BNP MPs' activities demeaning Khaleda, says Gayeshwar

BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Saturday voiced resentment against the party MPs recent activities as he thinks they apparently tried to erase the image of Khaleda Zia, an 'uncompromising' leader, in the name of freeing her from jail, reports UNB.
Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said, "They (MPs) tried to demonstrate before people that they're very sincere about madam's release...but they've got caught while making efforts to remove Khaleda Zia's title of 'uncompromising leader'."
Zia Shishu Kishore Mela Kendriya Sangsad arranged the programme at the National Press Club, demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, said Khaleda Zia will not comprise with the government. "She won't receive anybody's compassion or want to be freed on parole. She's an uncompromising leader," he added.
The BNP leader said Khaleda Zia will be freed through a movement, and their party will continue its agitation in this regard.
Gayeshwar also said though their jailed chairperson is physically week, her morale is very strong and she will not bow down to anybody.
On Wednesday last, four BNP MPs met Khaleda at BSMMU and urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to see their ailing chairperson for herself and take steps for her release on bail.
On Tuesday, three other BNP MPs also met Khaleda at the BSMMU and they said she is willing to go abroad for treatment if she is granted bail.
Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in February 8, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year.
About the government's current anti-graft purge, Gayeshwar said this is nothing, but a drama to divert people's attention to a different direction from the country's problems.
"I think the government has arranged a performance of monkey (through the drive) to mislead people and continue its misdeeds," he said.
The BNP leader said the country's economy has become bankrupt while banks have got depleted. "That's what they (Govt) are staging mini dramas to divert people's attention from such bankruptcy to another direction."
He said the government can give people a surprise by arresting a few 'small fry' in a dramatic move, but it will not help free the country from corruption.
