BNP not for deferring poll: MK Anwar

Tuesday, 18 November 2008

BNP Vice Chairman MK Anwar said Monday BNP was not in favour of deferring the upcoming national elections, reports BSS.
"BNP is ready to participate in the polls, but preparations of the government and Election Commission (EC) are not adequate. The voter list has not yet reached all places of the country," he told journalists at his residence in the city.
He said it took seven days to prepare a hard copy of the voter list but there were only three days left for submitting the nomination papers.
Former minister MK Anwar said though the government had been unanimous on six points, out of their seven-point demand, during the dialogue, but not a single demand had been fulfilled.
Criticising the comments of former adviser Akbar Ali Khan that as per the Constitution there was no scope for deferring the polls after declaring the election schedule, MK Anwar said, "This is not correct."
"I didn't find anything like that in the Constitution," he said.
