Friday, 7 November 2014

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) observed National Revolution and Solidarity Day through various programmes on Friday. The day was observed marking the civil-military ‘uprising’ in 1975. On this day in 1975, amid political turmoil soldiers and civilians jointly freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka Cantonment. BNP and its associate organisations have chalked out a 10-day programme to observe the day in a befitting manner. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia visited the mazar (grave) of the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city and placed wreaths and offered prayers, according to a news agency.
