BNP observes Zia's 42nd death anniversary

The leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies observed the 42nd death anniversary of its founder and former President Ziaur Rahman on Tuesday, reports UNB.
The party and its different associate bodies chalked out various programmes, including discussion meetings, seminars, photo exhibitions and distribution of food and relief materials among the destitute, to observe the death anniversary across the country.
The observance of Zia's death anniversary programmes began on Monday through a discussion programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, and will end on June 10.
To mark the day, black flags were hoisted and party flags kept at half-mast atop the offices of the party and its associate bodies, including Nayapaltan headquarters at 6:00am on Tuesday.
Besides, BNP senior leaders, led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, paid homage to their founder by placing wreaths at his grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning.
Apart from BNP, its different units and associate bodies paid homage to Zia and offered fateha at his grave in observance of the day.
The leaders of the party's Dhaka south and north city units distributed food and relief materials among the destitute in 57 spots in the city marking the day.
Besides, the Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged a day-long free medical camp at BNP's Nayapaltan central office. The poor people were provided with free treatment and medicines at the programme.
BNP's district, city and thana units also observed the day by holding various programmes, including discussions on the occasion.
