BNP protest meet attacked: 5 hurt in Barguna

BARGUNA, Dec 14 (UNB): A protest meeting of BNP came under attack and its party office ransacked allegedly by ruling party activists, leaving five people wounded in Betagi upazila on Monday night and Tuesday.
Local sources said activists of Awami League (AL), Jubo League and Chhatra League coming on 1012 motorcycles attacked and damaged the BNP party office at Jalisha Bazaar Monday night following an altercation between two workers of AL and BNP.
The attackers also beat up the opposition activists leaving five of them injured.
Leaders of upazila BNP on Tuesday morning held a meeting in front of party office at Jalisha protesting the attack.
The ruling party activists again attacked the protest meeting and also damaged the party office.
The opposition leaders condemned the attacks and demanded punishment to the attackers.
They alleged that police remained silent during the vandalism by the ruling party activists.
Police, however, claimed that on information they rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
