The BNP will hold protest rallies across Bangladesh on Monday after a court sent three party leaders including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail on Sunday. Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme this (Sunday) afternoon after a Dhaka court sent the leaders to jail. The two other leaders are Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas and Abdus Salam, member secretary of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit. “The leaders appeared before the trial court at the directive of the High Court after securing bail from there, but they were denied bail,” Rizvi said. “We think the leaders were sent to jail as they spoke for the party, country, democracy and sovereignty,” he said. Rizvi said sending them to jail reflected the government’s ‘vindictive attitude’, according to bdnews24.com.
