Outsiders Thursday foiled a rally of the main opposition BNP which was protesting against poor supply of water, electricity and gas, police said.
BNP organised the rally in front of Alam Market at Zurain in the city at about 4:30 pm demanding non-stop supply of water, electricity and gas.
Witnesses said the attackers with sticks swooped on the protest rally when Dr Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain, the standing committee member of the party, started delivering his speech and dispersed the protestors, leaving four people injured.
The protestors alleged that activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League launched the attack even before the law enforcers.
"The police also barred us from holding the rally," they said.
However, Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtoli police station said they did not resist the protestors. "We requested the BNP leaders not to use loudspeaker during the rally as they were not allowed to do so," he said.
