BNP questions necessity of Rab force

Thursday, 8 May 2014

In the wake of the termination of three Rab officials for their alleged involvement in the Narayanganj seven-murder, BNP Wednesday questioned the necessity of the elite force, reports UNB.
"The government has, in fact, admitted that Rab members were involved in the Narayanganj murders by removing three Rab officials," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He further said, "Time has come to think about the necessity of the law enforcement agency, the members of which are brutally and dreadfully killing citizens instead of maintaining law and order."
Fakhrul was addressing a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office after a joint meeting of the party. The meeting was held to chalk out programmes, marking the 33rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Fakhrul alleged that the law enforcers' involvement in the Narayanganj seven-murder proved the government's direct link to the incident.
Referring to the media reports about involvement of a minister's son in the Narayanganj murders, Fakhrul said no one was safe in the country when the son of a minister of a self-declared government was involved in such crimes.
The BNP spokesman demanded that the government quit immediately shouldering the responsibility for the seven murders.
He also demanded that the government immediately stop forced disappearances, abductions, secret killings and the return of those who had been picked up.
