BNP reconstitutes Dhaka city unit committee

After a long wait, BNP’s much-hyped Dhaka city unit fresh convening committee, headed by party standing committee member Mirza Abbas, was announced Friday night.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the committee at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, according to a news agency.
Mirza Abbas has been made convener of the committee replacing his arch rival and BNP vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka, now in the USA for treatment, while BNP chairperson’s adviser and former FBCCI president Abdul Awal Mintoo number one joint convener of the committee.
Habibunnabi Khan Sohel has been made member secretary of the new convening committee. Its joint conveners include party leaders Salauddin Ahmed, MA Quayum, Abul Bashar and Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu.
Besides, party standing committee members ASM Hannan Shah, Rafiqul Islam Miah, ex-Dhaka city unit BNP convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka and member secretary Abdus Salam have been made the committee advisers.
A day after her announcement to declare a fresh convening committee of her party's Dhaka City unit soon to wage a strong movement after Eid, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday midnight approved the committee.
Party sources said Khaleda fainalised the fresh committee in consultation with BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman to intensify their planned movement after Eid in the capital.
The new committee may form two separate committees by dividing Dhaka into two units -- South and North -- through holding a council within three months.
According to the sources, the new committees of the party’s some associate bodies like Jubo Dal are also likely to be announced very soon.
Khaleda goes to Saudi Arabia Saturday night where she will meet Tarique Rahman as he is also scheduled to be there from London.
The BNP chief is likely to elaborately discuss with Tarique the party’s overhaul process and formation of committees of the party’s all associate bodies and post-Eid movement strategy.
