BNP seeks permission for rally at Suhrawardy Udyan Nov 8

BNP has planned to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 8, marking the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day', reports UNB.
The party has already sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold the programme, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office, he said, "We've sent a letter to the administration seeking permission for holding the rally on November 8 at Suhrawardy Udyan. We're going to arrange the programme on the occasion of the National Revolution and Solidarity Day that falls on November 7."
He said they are taking all-out preparations to make the programme a success.
Asked whether their chairperson Khaleda Zia will be present at the meeting, he said, "We'll hold a big rally on the day. We'll inform you later whether the Madam (Khaleda) will be there or not."
Earlier on Thursday, the party chalked out a 10-day programme to observe the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day,' marking what it said the civil-military 'uprising on November 7, 1975'.
Rizvi announced the programmes at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office after a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies.
The celebrations of the day will begin on November 5 and end on November 14.
Amid political turmoil, soldiers and civilians on November 7, 1975 jointly freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the way for Zia to come to power.
While BNP and its alliances celebrate November 7 as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the ruling Awami League and its front organisations consider it as the day of 'killing of freedom fighters'. Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) observes it as the day of civil-military revolution.
Meanwhile, BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed said on Friday his party will join the 11th parliamentary election, even if the situation at the time of ballot is adverse.
"We'll join the polls this time and you (party men) all get ready for that. A mass wave will be created in the election. There'll be a mass upsurge, if you (AL) don't reach an understanding," he said.
The BNP leader made the comments while speaking at a discussion organised by Swadhinata Forum at the National Press Club in the city, protesting the attacks on Khaleda's motorcade in Feni on her way to Cox's Bazar and return to the capital last week.
The BNP leader said it will not be possible to demoralise their leaders from reaching out to people by making attacks on their motorcades.
He said defying all attacks, his chairperson Khaleda Zia will embark on some other district tours soon to drum up public support.
"Our leader (Khaleda) will again go on tour, and we'll see how many times you can attack her convoys. You've got scared as she has just taken to the streets...we would like to say it won't be possible to stop the progress of our party, our leader and people by attacking us and our convoy," the BNP leader said.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, said it is known to all who attacked his party chairperson's convoy. "Even our opponents also know it very well that the cadres of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League made the attacks. We strongly condemn it."
The BNP leader alleged that Awami League has proved it is a terror party by its activities over the last 10 years. "They (AL) are involved in all the terror acts."
Moudud also said the ruling party will be forced to reach an understanding with BNP over the next polls with a public wrath.
"There'll be no election in the county without BNP's participation. We want to assure that we'll join the polls under any unfavorable situation."
