BNP should wait until next polls, says Tofail
FE Report | Tuesday, 6 January 2015
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Monday urged the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to wait with patience for four more years.
"BNP should wait until the next parliamentary election. During this period, they (BNP) should go to the people with their agenda," he told reporters at his secretariat office, marking one year of the second consecutive term of the Awami League government.
The next election would be held within 90 days of January 29, 2019 under the present government led by Sheikh Hasina, he said, adding that BNP should no longer desire for the restoration of the caretaker government system.
The commerce minister said: "We are governing the country with skills. There are many success stories. Our initiatives are now being appreciated across the world. But it is unfortunate that BNP wants to hinder our development and progress."
About the comment of BNP's Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in London that BNP would not return home unless the government steps down, he said, "Tarique Zia is talking like a mad. They (BNP) want to see an undemocratic government in the country."
