BNP slams AL for widespread vote ‘fraud’

Saturday, 15 March 2014

Taking a swipe at the ruling party men for what he said indulging in widespread vote fraud during the third phase of the upazila polls, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi  Saturday said Awami League has turned into a party of ‘robbers’.
“The unabated criminalisation is reflected on all the activities of the ruling Awami League as it has become an organisation of dacoits instead of a pro-people party,” he regretted.
Rizvi made the remarks at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office while briefing reporters about the third phase upazila polls held in 81 upazilas across 41 districts, according to a news agency.
He alleged that the ruling party ‘cadres’ attacked opposition candidates, their supporters, blocked voters, forced out the agents of the BNP-led 19-party alliance-backed candidates from polling stations, snatched ballot boxes and rigged votes in different upazilas with the help of law enforcers and local administrations.
The BNP leader was critical of the Election Commission for what he said not taking any action despite lodging complaints against ruling party-backed candidates, their supporters who violated the election code of conduct and indulged in violence and vote fraud.
