BNP slams \\\'attacks\\\' on its nationwide protest

Sunday, 9 November 2014

The BNP has slated police attacks on its agitation programmes across Bangladesh.
At Sunday's media call, party's acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir dubbed the 'assaults' the "latest example of the government's fascism".
The BNP announced the protest programmes after it was denied police permission to organise a rally at Dhaka's Suhrawardy Udyan to mark Nov 7 'Revolution and Solidarity Day'.
Fakhrul criticised the attacks and commented, "The Awami League does not believe in democracy."
Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi condemned the 'police attacks' at a separate media call at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.
He claimed their planned agitation at Gazipur was foiled by police. The scene was similar in Barisal, Magura and Sirajganj, he added.
Rizvi said numerous BNP activists had been injured in police action in Dhaka as well.
"The Awami League cadres and police have attacked our programme today (Sunday). It is a merciless strike on the country's dying democracy," he said, according to a news agency.
