Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam alleged Friday that BNP was trying to push the country backwards through carrying out an anti-state propaganda abroad in the name of criticisms of the government, reports UNB.
"BNP was spreading an anti-state propaganda abroad in the name of the criticisms of the government. Even, they're conducting a smear campaign against our army, police and RAB who had been highly hailed by the world for their peacekeeping role in various countries," Mr Quamrul, also a joint general secretary of Awami League's Dhaka city unit, made the allegations while speaking at the closing function of a seven-day programme marking the 44th founding anniversary of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IEDB) at its auditorium in the city Friday.
Terming 'Hawa Bhaban' the 'breeding ground' of militants, he also alleged that the previous BNP government directly patronised militancy. "The grisly August 21 grenade attack was masterminded at this Hawa Bhaban."
The Minister also claimed that the current government is showing zero tolerance to militancy.
He alleged that BNP and its alliance partners are hatching a conspiracy to drag the country backwards when it is marching towards development and progress, and urged the people to remain alert against such plots.
IEDB president AKMA Hamid presided over the programme.
