BNP still awaits permission for city rally

Though BNP is moving ahead with its plan to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Saturday, marking the civil-military 'uprising' on November 7, 1975, it did not get the formal permission as of 9pm Friday, reports UNB.
Two senior BNP leaders-party joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu and former Dhaka city unit BNP member secretary Abdus Salam-waited for over an hour at the office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Friday evening for the permission,
but they were not given the permission.
Talking to the news agency, Salam said they were not given permission for the rally as of 9pm.
He, however, said they are hopeful that the authorities will finally allow them to hold their programme as they have taken all preparations for holding it peacefully.
Contacted, DMP deputy police commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman told UNB, "Suhrawardy Udyan is under Public Works Department (PWD).
