BNP submits audit report to EC showing Tk 60m deposit

BNP submitted on Tuesday its annual financial statement to the Election Commission (EC) for the 2018 calendar year, showing a fund of around Tk 60 million (6, 13, 27, 237) in reserve, reports UNB.
A BNP delegation, led by its joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, handed over the financial report to Election Commission Secretary Md Alamgir at Nirbachon Bhaban in the city.
The other members of the BNP delegation are party organising secretary Abdus Salam Azad and assistant office secretary Monir Hossain.
According to the report, BNP earned Tk 9, 86, 56,380 and spent Tk 3, 73, 29, 143 in 2018.
The party's deposit marked a slight rise than last year's as it stood at Tk 6, 13, 27, 237 from Tk 5, 26, 52, 948 in 2017.
In 2017 calendar year, the party showed Tk 4, 19, 41, 954 as expenditure against its income of Tk 9, 46, 24, 902.
Talking to reporters, Alal said the major sources of his party's income are party members' subscriptions, donations and nomination paper sale. "We've collected most of our revenue from selling party nomination papers during elections."
He said the salaries and festival allowance of employees of their office, political programmes, iftar parties, poster printing, and distribution of relief materials and financial assistance to repressed party leaders and activists were the main heads of expenditures.
As per the law, each registered political party is obliged to submit its financial statement of the previous calendar year by every July 31.
