BNP submits detailed return of election expenditure to EC

Friday, 1 May 2009

Responding to Election Commission's (EC) requirement, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) submitted their detailed sector-wise return statement on the party's election expenditure to the Commission Thursday, four months after the polls that they lost, reports UNB.
BNP office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rezvi submitted the return of the election spending to EC Secretary M Humayun Kabir in the afternoon.
After submission, Rezvi told journalists that the party's return statement on election expenses was submitted to the Commission as Thursday (Apr 30) was the deadline for the political parties who contested the ninth parliamentary elections to submit the statement.
"Our return statement which is legally made describing sector-wise spending is accepted by the EC," the BNP office secretary informed the journalists at the EC secretariat.
EC sources said the EC earlier issued letter to some of the political parties, including BNP, to submit their returns in detail, extending the time by one month to April 30.
On March 31, the EC fixed the last date for the political parties' submission of election expenditure.
Before the deadline, a number of political parties, including the ruling Awami League (AL) and opposition BNP, had submitted their statement of election expenditures to the Commission. Later the Commission wrote to BNP requesting to submit the statement in detail.
