BNP threatens irresistible oust-govt movement

Criticising the current regime for 'its growing repressive act', BNP threatened on Monday to wage an irresistible oust-government movement soon, reports UNB.
"This government wants to hang on to power resorting to terrorist activities. In fact, it's the godfather of terrorism. We'll soon launch a rigorous movement and will continue it until the fall of this autocratic regime," said party's joint sectary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader issued the threat at a press briefing at party's Nayapaltan central office in the city.
Rizvi alleged that the government wants to annihilate the opposition so that no one can raise voice against its misdeeds.
Slamming the government for what he said the recent spate of extra-judicial killings, he alleged the government by its subservient law enforcers is indiscriminately killing the opposition leaders and activists in the name of 'crossfire' across the country.
Referring to a recent report of local rights body Odhikar, the BNP leader said 39 opposition leaders and activists have become victim of the extra-judicial killings after the January 5 general election.
Rizvi said the government does not want to allow the opposition to hold their democratic programmes as it got isolated from the people.
Referring to Sunday attack on general students at Rajshahi University reportedly by police and Chhatra League activists, the BNP leader on behalf of his party condemned the incident.
"Though Chhatra League cadres and police attacked general students at Rajshahi University, the Prime Minister, the Information Minister and Home Minister remained silent. It seems that they are proud of the heinous activities by the hooligans of their organisations," Rizvi added.
Another report adds: Having denied permission for its Monday's scheduled rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, the BNP-led 19-party alliance has decided to stage demonstrations at every thana of the city today (Tuesday).
Rizvi announced the party decision at the press briefing.
Rizvi said they will stage the demonstrations to protest the government's illegal activities, obstruction to the 19-party's programme and denial of permission for their Suhrawardy Udyan rally.
Earlier on Sunday night, the DMP denied the 19-party alliance permission to hold its twice-rescheduled rally in the city's Suhrawardy Udyan for Monday on the plea of security concern at Amar Ekushey Book Fair.
The programme was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday in protest against the law enforcers' obstruction to their January-29 black-flags processions, killing and forced disappearances of its leaders and activists and repression on them.
However, it was first deferred to Sunday for the smooth inauguration of the Ekushey Book Fair on the day and then rescheduled for Monday to facilitate the Akheri Munajat of the second phase of Biswa Ijtema. The DMP also did not allow them to hold the programme.
