BNP to call more general strikes

BNP will call more general strikes as part of their demonstrations against the government, party standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has said, reports bdnews24.com.
"Our agitations will continue until this fascist government steps down," Khandker Mosharraf said addressing a rally in the capital's Muktangan Friday.
The rally was organised in protest against the case filed against five BNP leaders in connection with the recent bomb blasts on the premises of the chief justice's official residence.
The BNP leader said Awami League had called general strikes for 131 days from 2001 to 2006 while 173 days from 1991 to 1996 when BNP was in power. "So, they have no right to comment against hartal."
Hossain said their demonstrations cannot be resisted by filing such 'fake cases'.
BNP called a hartal for November 30, a day after the court hearing on the cantonment house of party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
But BNP says it called the general strike demanding immediate steps to resolve the nagging power crisis and arrest the soaring prices of essentials, while the Awami League claims the hartal has been called against the court verdict following which Khaleda Zia had to vacate her cantonment house.
