BNP to disband district committees

Monday, 18 May 2009

The main opposition BNP's top policymaking forum decided in a meeting Saturday night to dissolve all district committees to strengthen the party, an official said, reports bdnews24.com.
The standing committee meeting approved the district convening committees of four divisions. The convening committees of the remaining two divisions - Dhaka and Chittagong - were scheduled to be finalised Sunday.
"The new district convening committees will be assigned to organise council sessions at the districts, upazilas and unions," Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a standing committee member, told reporters Sunday noon.
Presided over by chairperson Khaleda Zia, the Saturday's adjourned meeting was scheduled to resume Sunday evening at 7:30pm at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.
Mosharraf explained the district convening committee finalisation process.
"Under the chairperson's leadership, the lists of the convening committees are being approved centrally through the standing committee nominating a convener and a number of joint conveners."
