BNP to gear up movement gradually for early polls

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Thursday they would gradually gear up the movement for early holding of parliamentary elections, reports UNB.
Briefing reporters at party's Nayapaltan central office, he said the government has been inviting conflicts as it had earlier stated that the January 5 parliamentary polls had taken place for constitutional obligation and after the 10th parliamentary elections they would arrange another election..
 "But the government now says that there will be no further election and even no dialogue will take place over the polls," said Fakhrul.
He added: "We want to launch movement peacefully. If the government does not sit for a dialogue or come to an accord, there will be no way for BNP but to wage strong movement against it along with the people."
Asked about the much-talked-about post-Eid movement of BNP, the acting secretary general said the party's standing committee will hold a meeting to take the decision in this connection and then it will be made public.
He also noted that the re-constituted Dhaka City BNP with Mirza Abbas as its convener will be at the core of the movement at this phase.
Fakhrul said BNP wants to unite the people to wage the movement for protecting democracy and people's right to vote.
Asked if any deal has been made between the ruling Awami League and the Jamaat-e-Islami, and whether Jamaat is still with BNP, he said the BNP-Jamaat relations remain unaffected as in the past.
