BNP to hold rally in capital on June 29

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced new programmes to put pressure on the government for immediate and unconditional release of detained party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
As part of the move the party will hold a rally in the capital on June 29 (Saturday). It will also hold rallies in the metropolitan cities on July 1 and in all the districts on July 3.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement in a press briefing after a joint meeting at the party's headquarters in the capital's Naya Paltan area on Wednesday.
"The movement for releasing detained party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has to be intensified. We want to bring this movement to a final stage. And to this end, we will hold a rally at Naya Paltan in the capital on June 29. It'll start at 3:00 pm," he said.
The party will also hold rallies in the metropolitan cities on July 1 and in the districts on July 3.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon were present, among others.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since Saturday. She has long been suffering from heart, liver and kidney-related diseases as well as diabetes and other complications. Earlier, she was admitted at the hospital on 9 August 2023 and returned to her residence on 11 January 2024 after receiving treatment.
