BNP to shut Gazipur down Saturday after rally ban

Friday, 26 December 2014

The BNP has called a daylong shutdown for Saturday in Gazipur protesting against local administration's ban on gatherings at party chief Khaleda Zia's proposed rally venue.
BNP's Gazipur unit chief AKM Fazlul Haq made the announcement Friday after a meeting of the party's Standing Committee and senior leaders at Khaleda's Gulshan office. The district administration imposed Section 144 at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College ground and surrounding areas amid tensions after ruling Awami League's student front said it would thwart Khaleda's rally, according to a news agency.
