SYLHET, Oct 01 (BSS): Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Monday BNP will join the next general election for its existence, reports BSS.
He said the polls will be held as per schedule, even if BNP does not take part in it.
"The elections will be held even if BNP does not take part in it as there are so many political parties in the country," he said while exchanging views with government officials at the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner's office.
Muhith said the government has taken all sorts of preparation to conduct the election in a free and fair manner and the voter list with pictures will ensure the credibility of the polls.
"The government is working relentlessly to ensure smooth supply of electricity across the country, including in the Sylhet division," the finance minister said.
Bangladesh has achieved remarkable successes in poverty alleviation since the government has taken various programmes in this regard, he added.
Lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, former Bangladesh's permanent representative to the United Nations Dr AK Abdul Momen and General Secretary of the Sylhet District Awami League Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury were present, among others.
