BNP tries to fish in troubled water over CC polls: Qamrul

Monday, 6 April 2015

Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam said on Sunday the BNP wants to fish in troubled water centering the city corporation (CC) polls in the name of asking for the level playing field, reports BSS.
"It is good enough that BNP has decided to take part in the city corporation polls. But, they want to make the election questionable after talking about the level playing field," he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion marking the 10th death anniversary of former Awami League (AL) presidium member Abdul Mannan at Shilpakala Academy in the city.
Cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam, executive president of the jote, presided over the discussion while Dhaka City AL organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and general secretary of the jote Arun Sarker Rana spoke on the occasion, among others.
"We want to hold a free and fair election which will be accepted to all. Stop making irresponsible remarks for the sake of the election. You (BNP) are talking about level playing field, but level-playing field doesn't mean to allow criminals to roaming freely," said Qamrul, also a joint general secretary of Dhaka City AL.
Pointing fingers towards BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, the minister said, "Finally, you went to the court like a gentle lady. Now, my question is to you, why have you killed people with calling hartal and blockade?"
