BNP unlikely to return to JS soon

Sunday, 13 June 2010

Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) is unlikely to return to Parliament soon to take part in the budget debate.
"A congenial atmosphere is absent for us to go to parliament with respect and dignity," said Barrister Moudud Ahmed Saturday, reports UNB.
When asked about the ruling party's call to BNP to return to parliament, Maudud said they (the government) had not been able to create an atmosphere for BNP to return to the House.
During the Friday's post-budget briefing, Finance Minister AMA Muhith and Awami League (AL) General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam urged BNP to join parliament and to take part in the debate on the proposed budget for next fiscal.
Asked about the finance minister's comment that the proposed budget contains 70 per cent of the budget proposals of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Moudud said they were looking into it.
On June 7, Begum Zia unveiled her party's 'Budget Thoughts' at a function outside the parliament.
BNP and its allies have been abstaining from the current 5th session (budget session) of the 9th parliament since they staged walkout on the first day of the session on June 2 protesting the shut down of the daily Amar Desh and arrest of its acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman.
