BNP urges police force to stand in favour of truth, not falsehood
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 30 April 2024
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) called upon on Monday the police force to stand in favour of truth not in favour of falsehood.
Senior joint secretary general of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the call while distributing pure drinking water and oral rehydration saline (ORS) among pedestrians and low-wage workers in Khilgaon area of the capital to get relief from the sweltering heat.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina grooms police force just like the way Jubo League and Chhatra League are being groomed," he said.
"The Prime Minister used Benazir and Asaduzzaman (two former high-ups of police) to cling to power. The situation of Asaduzzaman might be similar to that of Benazir," he said.
Mr Rizvi said that the government turned the whole country into a poisonous gas chamber and is pushing the people to towards death.
He gave a count that a total of 17 people including school students have died from heatstroke so far due to the ongoing hot spell across the country.
"BNP has stood beside people with pure drinking water and saline amid the ongoing sweltering heat. The ruling party claims that they did many development works in the country. But what they (the ruling Awami League) did for the people during the ongoing heatweave across the country ?" he questioned.
Meanwhile, convener of Dhaka south BNP Abdus Salam said on Monday that all opponent political parties have boycotted the upcoming upazila elections like the national elections held on January 7, 2024.
