BNP wants election to change charter: BNP

Thursday, 28 April 2011

The BNP has said the ruling Awami League (AL) does not have the mandate to change the constitution, reports bdnews24.com. "The government must give a fresh election before bringing any basic change to the constitution," BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Wednesday at the National Press Club. He also said the government was misguiding people in the name of reviewing the constitution. Fakhrul demanded that no controversial person be made chief of the next caretaker government (CG). "There must be a neutral Election Commission (EC). Partisan commission is unacceptable. Electronic voting is also unacceptable." Former chief election commissioner (CEC) MA Rauf said, "The 'cosmetic discussion' that the special committee is holding to draft a proposal for charter review is wrong."
