Our Correspondent CHITTAGONG, Nov 10: Local BNP leaders have demanded of the government and law enforcement agencies to trace out Boalkhali Upazila BNP chief Nazrul Islam alias Bacha Chairman whose whereabouts remain unknown for the last one year. Nazrul Islam, also Chairman of Ahla Karaldanga union parishad under Boalkhali of the district, was picked up by unidentified plain-clothed people from Gazipur Chowrasta area of Dhaka on November 8, 2010. BNP leaders said strong agitation movement will be launched if the government fails to find him out. Those who picked him up introduced themselves as law enforcers, they alleged. The opposition leaders were addressing a press conference at Chittagong Press Club today. President of BNP Chittagong south district unit and lawmaker from Banskhali Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, among others, addressed the press conference. In his written statement general secretary of Boalkhali BNP Mostaque Ahmed Khan said members of Bacha Chairman's family are yet to know the whereabouts of the victim. "We don't know if he faced the fate of Dhaka City Corporation councillor Chowdhury Alam or has been murdered in the Rakshi Bahini style of 1972-74," the statement said. He alleged that the victim was abducted on 8 November last year and brought to the Rab-7 zonal office at Chandgaon on the following day. The local BNP workers then cordoned of the Rab office resulting in chase and counter-chase between the law enforcers and party workers, he said. The victim's younger brother Hamidul Huq Mannan filed a case with Joydevpur police station of Gazipur naming five leaders of Boalkhali Upazila Awami League and Chhatra League. Later the accused were granted bail by the higher court and the family members of the victim started receiving death threats since then, Mannan said adding that protest meetings, demonstration and human chain programmes will be launched shortly until the government finds him out.
