BNP won\\\'t hold trial of Zia\\\'s killers: Maya
Friday, 6 June 2014
Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said Thursday BNP won't be able to hold trial of the killers of late president Ziaur Rahman, reports BSS.
"The big shots in BNP-fold would be exposed if trial of Zia killing case is held. That's the reason, they are not in favour of trial or they didn't hold trial when in power," Mr Maya, also general secretary of Dhaka City Awami League (AL), said this while speaking at the extended meeting of the city unit of AL at the Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city Thursday.
The extended meeting was convened with a view to making the programmes of the historic 6-point day on 7 June a success.
Dhaka City Awami League (AL) vice-president Faezuddin Miah chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by joint general secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, joint general secretary Haji Mohammad Selim, MP, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and publicity secretary Abdul Huq Sabuj.
In reply to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's comment that the party would hold trial of the killers of its founder Ziaur Rahman after coming to power again, Maya said: "Mirza Fakhrul Islam has been demanding trial in Zia killing case after 35 years. It's nothing but their treachery. They were in power twice but why they didn't hold trial of the killers."
"You would hold trial if you could assume power in future. But the reality is that people won't vote them as they don't trust them and they can't come to power," the minister said adding: "We want to let BNP leaders know that if you really want trial in the killing case the government will extend all sort of possible cooperation."
Pointing at BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, Food Minister Quamrul Islam said: "You are resorting to falsehood staying abroad while your mother Begum Zia has been indulging in lies at home. BNP will have to come out of falsehood. Otherwise, its consequence will not be good."
The minister extended his felicitation to elite force RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) for its recent operation in the bordering areas of Habiganj district in which huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered.
