BNP\\\'s human chain rescheduled for Sept 2

Saturday, 30 August 2014

In an apparent bid to avert a possible face-off with ruling party activists, the BNP-led 20-party combine has deferred its human chain programme scheduled for today (Saturday) protesting forced disappearance of its leaders and activists to September 2. BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the announcement while speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan in the city on Saturday. Earlier, party insiders said the decision to postpone the human chain was taken to avoid any trouble as Awami League is going to hold a rally in the city this (Saturday) afternoon. The BNP alliance will, however, observe its programme in all other cities and district towns today. Officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said they did not give the 20-party alliance permission to stage its programme in Dhaka city apprehending that there might be chaos as the ruling party has a pre-scheduled rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, according to a news agency.
