
BNS ready to host opening ceremony of WC Cricket

Country's premier venue Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS), which has been renovated and modernised at a cost of nearly Tk 35 crore, is now ready to host the opening ceremony of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on February 17, reports UNB.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the modernised international standard stadium on February 14.
The renovation and modernisation work for the new look BNS includes ICC hospitality box, BCB hospitality box, expansion and improvement of VIP lounge, renovation of floodlight, expansion and improvement of media centre with air cooler, gallery shades, installation of about 26,000 chairs in the gallery, three decorated entry gates to the stadium, VIP car parking area, installation of World Cup replica at the gate of Baitul Mokaram Mosque and installation of CCTV, and 82' giant TV screen.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarkar visited the BNS Monday to observe the preparations.
Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub Ahmed and high officials of National Sports Council (NSC) were present.
Besides the opening ceremony, Bangladesh will also host eight World Cup matches - four matches including two quarterfinals at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in city's Mirpur and two group matches at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
