Boat race competition held in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Oct 2 (BSS): A traditional boat race competition organised by local Sher-e-Bangla club was held in the river Meghna here Saturday. A total of 35 boats from Narsingdi and its adjacent districts took part in the competition in two groups. The race started from Nolbata ghat of Raipura Upazila and ended at UMC Jute Mills ghat of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. In the competition Abdul Aziz Member and his group hailed from Brahmanbaria district became champion in the big boat race competition while the boat of Rashida Shop Factory of Narsingdi Sadar became champion in the small boat competition. Posts and Telecommunica-tions Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju attended the function as the chief guest while Sher- e-Bangla club President Kaikobad Hossain Kalu was in the chair. The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners. Local lawmaker Lt Colonel (retd) Nazrul Islam (Bir Pratik), Acting Deputy Commission of Narsingdi Ali Ahsan, Police Super Dr Akkas uddin Bhuiyan and Narsingdi pourasabha Mayor Lokman Hossain, among others, were present in the function.
