Boat race in Magura enthrals villagers

MAGURA, Oct 25: A spectacular boat race on the river Madhumati by Mohammadpur upazila in Magura was held recently. Thousands of people assembled on the either side of the Madhumati.
The boat race held on the Madhumati flowing by Jhama bazar of Mohammadpur in Magura and a village fair there in was arranged by the celebration committee boat race and village fair on the 18th October this year.
The race started from Haridastapur Bazar ghat and ended at the Ghama Bazar. The spectators present enjoyed the race with much pleasure and excitement.
The whole area on the river banks was echoing with the sound of drums, flutes and musical instruments.
Eight boats from the districts of Faridpur, Rajbari, Kushtia and other districts in addition to Magura took part in the boat race.
The boat of Abdul Mannan of Alphadanga in Faridpur was declared first and that of Gahir Majhi of Arliala in Narail second and the third one was the boat of Solam Rasul of Banil in Faridpur.
M. Rajaul Karim Chunnu, former union parishad chairman and chairman of the boat race and the fair celebration committee presided over the meeting and handed over the trophies.
