Boat race on Rupsha enthrals thousands

KHULNA, Nov 1: A spectacular boat race on the river Rupsha was held today. Thousands of people assembled on the both side of the river including Rupsha Bridge. "The Banglalink 5th Khulna boat race" was arranged by Nagor Samajik and Sangskritik Sangothon under the auspices of cell phone Company Banglalink.
The race was formally inaugurated by the KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalequeas chief guest while Nazrul Islam Monju MP, Divisional Commissioner Moshiur Rahman, Managing Director of Khulna Shipyard Limited Commodore N Imran, Deputy Commissioner Jamsher Ahmed Khndoker, Regional Head of Banglalink Babul Haque and Sk. Ashrafuzzaman were present as special guests in the inaugural session.
The race started from Custom Ghat No.-1 and ended at Rupsha Bridge. The spectators present enjoyed the race with much pleasure and excitement.
The whole area on the river banks was echoing with the sound of drums, flutes and musical instruments.
Ten boats from the districts of Paikgacha, Koyra, Dumuria upazilla of Khulna district, Satkhira, Narail, Magura, Gopalgong and other districts took part in the boat race. The boat of Mostofa Kamal of Dumuria of Khulna was declared first and Joy Bangla team of Magura second and the third one was the boat of Balaka team of Paikgacha, Khulna. KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque handed over the trophies among the winners.
