Bodies of 5 Bangladeshis, 40 injured trawler people arrive in Teknaf

The 40 boat people, injured in firing by human traffickers in a trawler in the Bay of Bengal, were brought to Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar on Thursday. Besides, the bodies of the five other Bangladeshis killed by the traffickers on the same trawler in the Bay were also brought to the Upazila bordering Myanmar. Teknaf Coast Guard Station Commander Lt Col Harunur Rashid said they brought in the injured Bangladeshis and the dead bodies through the immigration terminal. Harunur Rashid said the injured were admitted to Teknaf Sadar Hospital. Three alleged traffickers were also arrested from the Malaysia-bound trawler which got stuck at the Bay with more than 300 Bangladeshis after its engine broke down on Wednesday. The Coast Guard's Teknaf CO said that three of their vessels rescued the boat people and towed the trawler towards shore. At least five Bangladeshis were killed and 40 others injured in the Bay when a group of traffickers opened fire on the boat people illegally travelling to Malaysia on Thursday. Three suspected traffickers, two from Thailand and the other from Myanmar were arrested. The trawler was from Thailand, according to a news agency.
