Body formed to review roles, structures of BREB, PBS
FE REPORT | Friday, 25 October 2024
The government on Thursday constituted a five-member committee to review roles and structures of the state-run Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) units.
The committee has been formed following last week's dismissals of some 20 BREB officers and employees and subsequent protests by BREB and PBS employees across the country.
It will review documents and necessary files of both BREB and PBSs, and their organisational structures before making suggestions for their better operations in future.
The contributions of the BREB and the PBSs in ensuring cent per cent electrification across the country were taken into consideration to constitute the committee to ensure further improvement.
The committee will also interview employees of both entities and their representatives to gather information, according to a press release issued by power, energy and mineral resources ministry.
Brac University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Farhat Anwar is the president of the national committee.
