Bogura sugarcane farmers expect abundant output

BOGURA, July 03: Sugarcane growers in the district are expecting an abundant output this season as the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has provided all agri-inputs to them.
According to the district DAE office sources, peasants of 12 upazilas of the district are growing sugarcane on over 500 hectares of land. They are eyeing over 800 tonnes of sugarcane yield.
DAE officials said sugarcane cultivation is gaining popularity in Shibganj, Sonatola, Gabtoly, Shajahanpur, Dhunot and Sadar upazilas of the district.
Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said, "We are expecting a bumper sugarcane yield this year amid a favourable weather."
The Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and some local NGOs distributed easy-term loan facility among the poor farmers.
