BoI registers project proposals worth Tk825.85b as of Apr

The Board of Investment (BoI) has registered project proposals worth Tk825.85 billion (Tk 82,585 crore) from local, joint and foreign investors till April of the current fiscal year (2014-2015). Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu made the disclosure in Parliament responding to a question from Mahfuzur Rahman (Chittagong-3). He said the BoI had registered investment proposals worth Tk682.91b from local, joint and foreign investors during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The minister also mentioned that the amount of 1074 investment proposals from these investors was Tk 1,259.40b from January 2009 to April 2015. To attract foreign investment to the industrial sector, Amu said, the government is providing a number of facilities to investors and has taken steps taken to formulate the National Industry Policy 2015. It is providing tax holiday on area basis, considering NRB investment as foreign investment, continuing double tax avoidance treaty and providing 15 years’ tax holiday for those private power plants which will come into operation till June 2016, according to UNB.
